Behind the name
Dewey House is named for Dewey Readmore Books. On a cold January night in 1988, a kitten was left in the book return at the public library in Spencer, Iowa. Staff found him the next morning and adopted him, and he lived among the shelves and readers until 2006. The name is a nod to quiet company and a good book.
